Compounding Pharmacy for Pelvic Health: Why you Should use one in your Clinical Practice

Hi there!
As an FNP with over 10 years of experience, I’ll be honest, I knew NOTHING about compounding pharmacy. My limited knowledge about compounding rx was based on the negative press around compounding bioidentical hormone therapy (BHRT).
I’m in the state of MA, and on 1/1/21, NPs finally got full practice authority! (FPA). My wonderful PT colleague, Melissa, had seen firsthand how helpful compounding rx had been for her vulvodynia and vestibulodynia patients. It was time to learn more!
I had so many questions…
β Is it safe?
β What does the evidence say and where can I find that evidence?
β How do you know what to prescribe? (it’s not exactly on Epocrates or UpToDate)
But, I wasn’t sure where to start….
So- I reached out to other NPs in our growing IPH community and found 2 amazing mentors!
One is Heather Cox Quaile, WHNP, of the SHOW center. π
The other is my former student, Jennifer Jordan, DNP-FNP of Riversedgepcp π
(and by the way, Dr. Jordan just opened her own practice 6/15/21! )
They both
- shared their recipes with me for things like vulvodynia, vestibulodynia, vaginal atrophy and low libido
-directed me to the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH)
-recommended that I reach out to a compounding pharmacist to learn more
Check out this week’s video to learn more about how and why it’s important to develop a relationship with a compounding pharmacist!
Let's build our interdisciplinary networks and collaborate so that we can revolutionize pelvic health!
We are stronger togetherπππ
Warmly
Melissa and Kathy
